U.S. Veteran

FOLEY

Don Killian went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 20, 2012.  He was born in Holt, AL.  At the age of two, he moved to Tuscaloosa.  He has been a resident of Foley since 1959.

Don was a faithful and active member of Foley First Baptist Church and the Bible Boomers Sunday School Class.   Don loved his church, and he served diligently in various capacities.  He was a former member of Gideons International and Civitan International.  After graduating from Tuscaloosa High School, he graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Geography and a Masters degree in Secondary Education.   His social fraternity at the University of Alabama was Phi Sigma Kappa.

With patriotic pride, Don served two years in the United States Navy--a Korean War veteran.

He taught history and geography at Foley High School from 1959 to 1969.   While teaching at Foley High School, he was the first sponsor of the Foley High School Key Club.   He also coached the seventh and eighth grade basketball teams in 1959.   From 1970 to 1995, Don was Dean of Students at George Stone Vocational Center in Pensacola.  As an adjunct instructor at Faulkner State Community College in Fairhope, he taught geography for several years.

Don will always be remembered as being an avid Alabama football fan.  His true allegiance was to the University of Alabama; although during his married life, he lived in a home with all Auburn fans.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Henry D. Killian and Ethel Lockman Killian Dyer of Tuscaloosa; sisters, Jane Killian and Peggy Killian Simpson; grandparents,  Frank  Lockman  and  Bessie  Lockman  of  Tuscaloosa;  Dr.  Artemus  D. Killian  and  Eula  Smith  Killian  of  Tuscaloosa.

He  is  survived  by  his  wife,  Jean Kimbrough Killian; one daughter, Kathi Kimbrough; two sons, Kim Kimbrough (Suzy); and Kal Kimbrough (Kim).  Grandchildren:  Madelyn, Kathleen, K. J, and Kylee.  He is also survived by one sister, Patsy Killian Meeks; two brothers, Danny Killian and Johnny Dyer.  He leaves behind his loving animals:  Come-On, the cat; Isabella, the cat; and Bo- Charlie, the beagle.

Visitation will be held at Foley First Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, with Dr. Billy Nale officiating the service at 11:00 a.m.

Graveside service,  immediately following at Pine Rest Cemetery in Foley.

Memorials may be sent to  Foley First  Baptist  Church--Acts  1:8,  P.O. Box  307, FoleyAL  36536.
