Bernice "Buddy" Downs

BON SECOURBernice "Buddy" Downs passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at home surrounded by family at the age of 84. He was a native of Wilburton, OK and a resident of Bon Secour. Mr. Downs retired from the U.S. Navy after twenty-four years of service, serving in WWII and Vietnam. He was a life member of the VFW, Post 5658, Elberta and a member of the American Legion, Gulf Shores. He is survived by a daughter, Frances (Richard) Weikleenget of Foley; two grandchildren, Rick (Monica) Weikleenget of Modesto, CA, Wendy (Jason) Godwin of Clarksville, TN; two great grandchildren, Cody and Cora Godwin; brother-in-law, Fred (Betty) Black of Niceville, FL; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Black of Pensacola, Daisy Black of Repton and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Mr. Downs was preceded in death byhis wife, Josephine Downs, two brothers, Merle and Bill Downs and two sisters, Virginia Meinke and Alva Browne. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 11, 2011 from 5-7 pm at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Foley. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 12, 2011at 10:00 am from the funeral home chapel.
