Jerome LaFayette "Jerry" Byars

FAIRHOPE , AL Jerome Lafayette “Jerry” Byars succumbed to a long valiant battle with leukemia Friday, August 5, 2011. He joined loved ones in Heaven while leaving many grieving family members and friends. Born in Macon , GA July 29, 1938, he attended Mercer College in that city and finished his college years graduating from Georgia State University .  Most of his career years Jerry was in public accounting.  Before retiring in 2005 and moving to Fairhope , AL , Jerry and his wife Carolyn lived on St. Simons Island, GA for twenty-five years. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Klumpp Byars;  his three sons, Jerome Lafayette Byars and wife Darlene,  Todd Byars and wife Lisa, Christian Kirby and wife Anne;  his two daughters, Cathy Carbone and Stephanie Floyd; one brother, Delmar Byars and wife June;  two sisters, Beverly Harrell and husband Ken and Rowena Clements; eleven wonderful grandchildren whom he loved so dearly and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives. He will be so greatly missed by his family, many loving friends and members of Fairhope United Methodist Church .  He was attended by wonderful caring doctors ; David Clarkson and William Bingham at Thomas Hospital and many awesome nurses.   He was also well attended at Emory Hospital , Atlanta , GA by Dr. Jean Khoury. A visitation will held Monday, August 8, 2011 from 5-7 pm at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 11 am at Fairhope United Methodist Church , Fairhope , AL .  Mr. Byars will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior to the service. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fairhope United Methodist Church Caring Ministries.
