Charles Clifford Byrd

February 18, 1922 — May 29, 2012

BYRD FOLEY.AL  Charles Clifford (Tip) Byrd, 90,  a native of Citronelle, AL and resident of Foley, AL passed away on May 29, in Pensacola, FL.   Charlie was born Jan. 18, 1922 to Fritz Oliver and Judy (Green) Byrd and was one of four children.  He was raised on a farm and attended Citronelle High School.  Charles joined the US Navy in 1942 and server as a Corpsman/Medic.  He was honored and received a bronze medal, for his bravery and rescue of young civilians, during the Peleliu invasion.    Following his military service, he was employed with Brookley Field Air Force Base as a air frame and power-plant specialist and later moved to Pensacola, FL.  It was there that he met and married  Katherine (Kitty) Boggs in 1967.    Charlie loved being involved with his church family and activities.  He took great pride in his garden and flowers. And his favorite past time was fishing.   Charlie was preceded in death by many of his family, including his wife and parents, brothers Prentice (Bonnie) Oliver and Cleve (Rae) Carl, as well as sister Lula (Webb) Mae Reese and nephew "Bobby" Byrd.    He leaves behind two step-daughters, Pat Van Patten and Carolyn Boggs; step-grandson Scott (Tiffany) Parker; step-great grandchildren Abigail and Addison Parker; nieces Patsy (Richard) Nelson; Joy (Jim) Hinton; Judy (Stan) Carver; step-nephew Bobby (Doris) Glanden; along with other relatives and friends.   Visitation will begin at 9:00 am, followed by a 11:00 service on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Summerdale Church of Christ.   Interment will follow at Pine Rest Memorial Park.
