Elvira Marie Zodda Chiccarelli

DAPHNE, AL Elvira Marie Zodda Chiccarelli, age 85, died Tuesday, February 2, 2010, after a brief illness. Mrs. Chiccarelli was preceded in death by her husband, Fortunato Chiccarelli.She is survived by her four children, Lucille (Gregory) Kennedy, Dr. Elvira Chiccarelli, Nancy (John P.) Thompson, Stephen Chiccarelli, three grandchildren, Sean Kennedy, Bridget Kennedy, Elvira Chiccarelli, brothers, Victor Zodda and Rudolph Zodda, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.Mrs. Chiccarelli graduated from Fordham University School of Nursing in 1943 and then volunteered for the United States Public Health Service Army Cadet Corps. After World War II, she worked for the U. S. Veterans Administration and various New York City Hospitals. She received her School Nurse Teacher Certification from Russell Sage College and worked for the Clarkstown District Schools for many years. A native of Spring Valley, New York, Mrs. Chiccarelli retired to Destin, Florida with her husband where she resided for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to her family.A flag will be flown in her name over the Women's Service Memorial in Washington, D.C.The family will receive friends Monday, February 8, 2010 from 8:30 am-10:30 am at Michael Higgins Funeral Service in New City, NY.A mass of Christian burial will be Monday, February 8, 2010 at 11 am from St. Anthony Catholic Church, Nanuet, NY.Interment will follow at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. A memorial mass will be held on February 17, 2010 at 8:30 am from the Resurrection Roman Catholic Church, Miramar Beach Road, Destin, Florida.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Women's Service Memorial Foundation P.O.
