Gertrude Helen Kanne

FOLEY Gertrude Helen Kanne, age 92, a native of Dent, MN, and a resident of Foley, AL, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2010. She graduated from the Lutheran Deaconess Nursing School in Minneapolis, MN in 1939. She joined the Army in 1942. She was a First Lt. Combat Nurse during WWII, serving in New Guinea and the Phillipines. She was the first operating room supervisor at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center in Foley from 1958 to 1965. She is survived by her son, Paul S. Martell, Sr., of Foley, AL; one sister, Eunice Kanne of Grantburg, WS; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at Swift Presbyterian Church, Foley, AL. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Swift Presbyterian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations may be made to the Army Relief Fund.
