DAPHNE, AL Robert E. Lord, Sr., age 84, born April 17, 1927, Atmore, AL, went to eternal rest on Sunday, June 27, 2010. Mr. Lord was a lifelong resident of Pensacola, FL, and Baldwin County, AL, served in the Navy during WWII, received training at Great Lakes Naval Air Station, and assigned to duty on the aircraft carrier USS Block Island CVE-21. He was aboard when the carrier was sunk on May 29, 1944, near the Canary Islands by the German U Boat U-594. The Navy commissioned another Block Island CVE-106 which he also served on. After discharge, he became a lifetime member of VFW Post 5658 Kichler-Pippen in Elberta. He was preceded in death by his parents, James M. Lord and Nora Louise Hawkins, as well as all brothers, James M, Rufus L, Howard B, Carlos, Oscar, David N, and all sisters, Ora Bell Fowler, Bessie White, Laura A O’Brien, and Ella Lord. He is survived by one son, Robert Lord, Jr. and many nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 2, 2010, at 10:00 am, from the Chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Foley, AL.The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the funeral home in Foley, AL.Interment will be held in the Elberta Public Cemetery where he will rest eternally surrounded by family members and friends.
