Obituary for Albert Corte, Jr., DVM March 22, 1941 – July 4, 2025
Dr. Albert Corte, Jr., DVM, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Corte, Sr. and Margaret Connick Corte, and is survived by his beloved wife, Ellen Persons Corte; his children, Albert “Trae” Corte III, Krislyn Damrell Corte, James Van Heuvel Corte, DVM, Chadwick Alan Fleming, Amanda Elaine Montz (Thomas), and Justin Timothy Fleming (Amber Fassbender); his sisters, Margaret “Maureen” Corte Moreland and Michele Corte Statler.
Additionally, he is survived by his grandchildren: Genevieve Corte Nance (Peyton), 1st Lt. Charles Albert Corte, Martin Van Heuvel Corte, Colton Timothy Lopasser, Hayes Corte Lopasser, Amelia Mae Fleming, Justin Miller Fleming, and Nico Fassbender; his great-grandchild, Sullivan Todd Vance; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, greats, and cousins, who cherished and respected him as their family patriarch.
Education and Professional Life: Dr. Corte graduated from McGill Institute in 1959. He attended Notre Dame University, Spring Hill College, and Auburn University, where he graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine in 1965. While at Auburn, he was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society. He served as Vice President of the Sophomore Class in 1963, was Vice President of the Alpha Psi Veterinary Fraternity in 1965, and served as President of the School of Veterinary Medicine. He was nominated President of the Auburn student chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Corte was appointed to the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners and served on numerous other boards in support of veterinary medicine. As a dedicated member and elected Chair of the Thomas Hospital Foundation, Dr. Corte was passionate about improving healthcare in the community and worked tirelessly to support its mission and growth.
“Doc” opened Highland Animal Hospital in Loxley, Alabama, in 1966, before relocating the practice to Daphne, where he continued to serve until 2025.
Community Involvement: He was an active member of the Knights of Ecor Rouge, a local Mardi Gras organization, and proudly wore jersey #4 with the Point Clear Polo Club, where he also served as the on-call veterinarian.
From 2002 to 2024, he was the President of the Rileigh & Raylee Angel Ride Foundation, an organization close to his heart and one that meant a great deal to our community and the families it served.
Dr. Corte lived by the saying, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” He deeply valued empathy and trust in his professional life, where building strong relationships with clients and colleagues was central to all he did. His dedication to both his profession and his family remained a defining hallmark throughout his life.
Funeral Services: Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Belforest Catholic Cemetery on Highway 64.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine, the Daphne Animal Shelter, or a church or charity that is meaningful to you.
