Elberta

Alma Irene Doege, age 96, a lifelong resident of Elberta, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 25, 2025.

Alma was more than the matriarch of her family; she was a matriarch of the town of Elberta. A graduate of Pensacola High School, she devoted her life to serving her community with quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering faith.

Alma worked for 36 years at the Elberta Post Office, also worked at Elberta Grocery, was a member of the Elberta Town Council, a faithful member of St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church, and served as an Elberta Police Commissioner. Her dedication helped shape the town she loved so deeply.

Known as a kind and loving friend to all, Alma never met a stranger. She was a faithful servant of God and a steady presence in the lives of so many. If you needed help, encouragement, or simply a listening ear, Alma was there, often before you even realized you needed her.

To her family, she was “Momma,” always present with perfect timing. She would tell you that her greatest accomplishment in life was her husband and her four fine jewels, her daughters.

She is survived by her four daughters: Paulette Corban of Elberta, Anita (Jason) Bishop of Fairhope, Janice (Tom) Werner, and Darrah (Alan) Lassiter, all of Elberta; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends who were blessed to know her.

Alma was preceded in death by her mother, Elafair Resmondo Milsted; her father, Wade Hampton Milsted; her husband, Norman Paul Doege; and her grandson, Benjamin Thomas Werner.

Funeral services will be held at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive all friends at Wolfe Bayview Foley Funeral Home on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Elberta Public Cemetery on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
