Augustus Zacharias Markris, lovingly known as Gus, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026. Born on July 11,1946. Gus lived a life of devotion and unyielding love for his family.

Gus was a proud veteran, he served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Gus embraced the seas where he worked as a 1st Mate until his retirement. Gus was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Mobile where he served for many years.

A true family man, Gus is remembered fondly for loving his family unconditionally. He cherished cooking meals for his loved ones, and found joy in sharing stories of his life’s many shenanigans. His playful spirit and warm humor brought light into every gathering and his presence will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

Gus is survived by those he held so dear, his daughters, Julie Papadelias (Thomas); Mary Archer (Kevin); Christina Mulhern (Paul); Deanna Markris; and his beloved sister Adrianne Kergis along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Gus now joins in eternal rest with his beloved wife, Margaret Markris; his loving son Troy Markris; his parents Jack and Mary Markris; and his siblings Aleck Markris and Patsy Adams.

Gus’s passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who loved him, but his memory will live on in the stories shared and the love he gave so freely.
