B. J. Boyington, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community member, passed away on October 11, 2025, in Oyster Bay, Alabama, at the age of 89. Born on January 10, 1936, in Nokomis, Alabama. B. J. led a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his community, and a passion for various interests that defined his journey.
A respected lineman by trade, B. J. began his career at Boyd's Radiator Repair and Baroco Electric in Pensacola. He became a lineman for REA (now known as EMC) of Gulf Shores in 1970, where he worked diligently until his retirement in 2000. His impact in this role was not only felt through his work but also through the bonds he formed with his fellow crewmen, who became some of his closest friends and family mentors. Following his long career with the power company, he owned and operated Bon Secour Auto Sales, for a short time worked as an RV transporter in Indiana and spent his last years repairing and selling used bicycles.
B. J. was also a member of the National Guard of Florida and was honorably discharged in April 1956. His military service enriched his character and reputation as a man committed to the betterment of those around him.
Family life was paramount to B. J. He married Rossie Catherine Ward on June 5, 1954, and together they nurtured a supportive and loving home environment for their children. B. J. was known for his fair, compassionate demeanor and his ability to create a happy, safe, stable household, thanks to his reliable presence. He is survived by his devoted wife, Rossie Boyington, his daughters, Elaine Schreiber (Fred) and Helen Cserep (Ted), and his son, Joe Boyington (Kelly). He was also a proud grandfather to Vanessa Champion, John Schreiber, Chance Boyington, and Jill Boyington, as well as four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews brother and sister in-laws.
Throughout his life, B. J. had diverse hobbies and interests that enriched his experiences. He was passionate about cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, bicycles, hunting and fishing, particularly during his years as a member of hunting camps in Evergreen and Atmore.
Well-regarded by people of all ages, B. J. was an active and cherished member of the Oyster Bay Baptist Church. The respect he garnered throughout his life illustrated the profound impact he had on those around him.
Remembered fondly, B. J. will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community. He was predeceased by his father, Brack Jackson Boyington; mother, Ruby Boyington; sister, Ruby Robinson; son, Bob Boyington; and granddaughter, Jennifer Boyington.
