Billy Joe Royster, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on July 7, 1929, in Ashland, Alabama, Billy lived a life marked by kindness and generosity. He was a Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner. His dedication to family and community was evident throughout his remarkable journey. 

Billy had a distinguished career that spanned nearly four decades with the Alabama Power Company (Southern Company). He dedicated 39 years and 8 months to the company from 1948 to 1988, contributing significantly in various roles, including Accounting and Claims & Litigation. His professional legacy is one of integrity and service, reflecting his commitment to his work.

A proud Korean War Veteran, Billy served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, where he displayed remarkable courage and dedication. Following his service, he lived in various cities in Alabama and Florida, his last 17 years in Daphne, Alabama. He spent the last four months of his life at the William F. Green Veterans Home in Bay Minette, where he received excellent skilled nursing care.

Known for his impeccable style, Billy was often referred to as the best dressed man at church. He was the ultimate gentleman, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him. He enjoyed attending church, boating, camping, working in his yard, and cherished moments with family and friends. In his later years, he found joy in watching Westerns on television, a pastime that brought him comfort and nostalgia.

Billy is survived by his loving wife of 75 years and 8 months, Barbara Royster; his daughter, Sandra Royster of Daphne, Alabama; his grandson, Jeffrey Beck of Daphne, Alabama; two nephews, James (Judy) Brooks of Ashland, Alabama, and George (Patsy) Brooks of Oxford, Alabama; along with other family members and friends who will deeply miss him.

Billy is preceded in death by his parents, Thurman and Estin Royster; a sister, Mary Nell Brooks; and a brother, Thurman Junior Royster. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

A service to celebrate Billy's life will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 545 South Mobile Street, Fairhope, Alabama, on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 11:30 AM. There will be a time of visitation and a light lunch with family and friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 545 South Mobile Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532 (for checks, please include Billy J. Royster Memorial on the memo line).
