Birdie Katherine Barnes Kohoutek

Katherine Kohoutek, a native of Patton Chapel, Alabama, and longtime resident of Fairhope, died at home Tuesday, March 15, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents, James E. and Ruby P. Barnes, and her son, Charlie J. Kohoutek, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Charlie J. Kohoutek; daughters, JoAnn Styron and Charlene (Frank) Henning; grandchildren Wendy (Ken) Styron, Hollie (Victor) Gilman, Mimi and Elizabeth Henning; great-grandsons Jarrett and Colby Styron, and sister, Ruth Wilson. Katherine was a convert to the Catholic faith upon marriage, and a longtime member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Jubilees, soft shelling, and throwing a cast net for shrimp were great enjoyment for Katherine. Her love of nature also included extensive flower gardening and bird watching. She taught herself and her daughters to sew, and projects included window drapes to wedding dresses. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. The family will receive friends in the St. Lawrence Room at 9:00 a.m. There will be a private burial at Belforest Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please do something nice for someone.
