Bobby Edward Cheatham

Bobby Edward Cheatham, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on July 22, 2026 at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, Alabama, following a courageous and lengthy battle with multiple medical issues. Born on July 11, 1941 in Flomaton, AL, Bobby’s journey through life was a testament to his unwavering strength, kindness, and commitment to others.

Bobby’s early sense of duty led him to join the United States Army at just 18 years old. He devoted 14 years of honorable service to his country, including periods of duty in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. During his second tour, Bobby’s valor and dedication were recognized with the awarding of the Bronze Star. His military service marked him as a man of discipline, courage, and steadfastness, qualities that would continue to define his life long after he returned home.

Following his time in the Army, Bobby forged a remarkable career as an over the road truck driver. With immense pride and professionalism, he safely traveled more than 10 million miles—without a single accident—and shared his wealth of experience by training countless new drivers along the way. Among his peers, Bobby was known for his reliability and generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand or a guiding word.

Faith was a cornerstone in Bobby’s life. As a dedicated member of First Fairhope Church and the Truthseekers Sunday School class, he brought warmth and cheer wherever he went. His genuine smile was a beacon to those who needed it most, earning him the endearing nickname “Sunshine.” Bobby’s devotion extended beyond his church, as he became a proud member of the Shriners Organization in 1977, where he worked tirelessly to raise money supporting children in need. In later years, joining the Gideons International allowed him to help spread the gospel by placing Bibles in hotels and schools, ensuring hope and faith reached far and wide.

To know Bobby was to know a man defined by honesty, loyalty, a tireless work ethic, generosity, endless love, and a great sense of humor. His capacity for fun and joy was infectious; friends and acquaintances alike recall laughter, warmth, and good spirits wherever Bobby went.

Those blessed to have shared their lives with Bobby now cherish his memory while carrying his legacy forward. He is survived by his loving wife, Faye Cheatham, whose partnership and devotion were a constant source of strength. His sister, Judy (Buddy) Fisher, and his daughter, Lisa (Kevin) Arnold,  three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive him, each holding close the love and memories that shaped their lives. Bobby was predeceased by his father, Edward Cheatham, and his mother, Juette Cheatham.

Family and friends are invited to honor Bobby’s life at a visitation on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Fairhope Chapel, 19698 S Greeno Rd, Fairhope, AL 36532. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort, located at 34904 AL-225, Spanish Fort, AL 36577.

Through battles fought, miles traveled, faith shared, and love given, his life remains a beacon of perseverance, generosity, and joy. He will be forever missed, yet his spirit—the same bright “Sunshine” so many cherished—will continue to shine in the hearts of those he touched.
