Fairhope

Bobby Herman Phillips, age 86, of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away peacefully at this home on June 17, 2025.

Born on June 2, 1939, in Sandersville, Georgia, Bobby was the beloved son of the late Ralph Freeman Phillips and Louise Brantley Phillips.

Bobby dedicated his life to service – first to his country, and always to God and his family. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 30 years, quickly rising to the top enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Throughout his distinguished military career, he earned numerous commendations, including the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross, reflecting his service in combat support areas during the Vietnam conflict. His assignments took him on two 12-month tours of duty in Thailand and Turkey, exemplifying his commitment and courage. Seeking to better himself, his career, and education, he applied himself in night classes to earn a degree in Resource Management Technology from the Community College of the Air Force.

Following his military retirement, Bobby continued to serve his country as a civil servant for an additional 16 years, culminating his career as the Chief Tactical Airlift and Special Operations Director at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia. His dedication and excellence were recognized with several awards, including the Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award.

Beyond his professional life, Bobby was deeply devoted to his community of servicemen and women. He was a long-term supporter of veteran’s programs and played a significant role in establishing a veteran’s memorial at a local golf course in Warner Robins, Georgia. An avid golfer, Bobby found great joy on the golf course, both in the game and in the friendships it fostered.

Above all, Bobby was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Geneva Tanner Phillips; his son, Jeffrey Phillips; and his three cherished granddaughters, Kaleigh Alexander (Eric), Peyton Phillips and Jessica Phillips.

A funeral service honoring Bobby’s life and service will be held at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, Alabama, on July 7, 2025, at 10:00a.m.

Bobby’s legacy of dedication, faith, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
