Catherine Finch Bertagnolli, age 96, a native of Mobile, AL, and a resident of Spanish Fort, AL, passed away, Sunday, September 6, 2026

Catherine Rose was born on September 28, 1929. From the moment she entered this world, she was destined to be an amazing woman whose life would touch the hearts of so many.

Catherine grew up in Mobile, Alabama, alongside her older brother and four younger siblings. As the eldest of four girls, she naturally became a role model to her younger sisters. She was someone they could look up to and depend on throughout their lives.

Catherine worked at McGowin and Lyons Hardware Store, where she met the love of her life, Joseph “Joe” Bertagnolli. The two married on May 30, 1953 when Catherine was 23 years old. Together, they began building a beautiful life filled with family, hard work, faith, and love.

On April 1, 1955, Catherine and Joe welcomed their first son, Joseph Jr. Their second son, Richard, was born on October 7, 1956. Catherine and Joe made their home in Spanish Fort, Alabama, where they shared a farm with family and worked hard to provide the best life possible for their children.

Family was at the very heart of Catherine’s life. She loved her family more deeply than words could ever express. She was a devoted mother to her two sons and later, a loving mother-in-law to her two daughters-in-law. She was also a cherished grandmother to her granddaughter and two grandsons, and a proud great-grandmother to her six great-grandsons.

And while her family held the greatest place in her heart, there was One she loved even more: Jesus.

Catherine’s faith was a tremendous part of who she was and how she lived each day. She was a devoted Catholic, and her relationship with Jesus guided her through life. Her faith gave her strength, hope, and peace, and she shared that light with those around her.

Catherine will be remembered for many things, but perhaps one of the greatest things people will remember is her smile. Her smile could brighten a room and leave an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

She was an inspiration to so many people - even some she never had the opportunity to meet. Catherine never complained and never gave up. She always looked for the bright side, even when life was difficult. She was strong, smart, compassionate, and resilient.

Catherine lived a life of love, faith, family, and perseverance. Her legacy will live on through the family she cherished, the people she inspired, and the countless memories she leaves behind.

Though her earthly journey has come to an end, the love she gave, the lessons she taught, her beautiful smile, and her unwavering faith will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, united with Jesus, whom she loved so dearly.

Her life was a blessing.

Her memory is a treasure.

Her love will live forever.

Catherine is proceeded in death by her parents, James and Bernadette Finch. Her husband, Joseph E. Bertagnolli Sr. Siblings; James Finch Jr.(Fern), John Finch (Frankie), Ann Finch, Dorothy Bertagnolli (Robert). Nephew, Jimmy Finch. Daughter in law, Nita Bertagnolli.

Catherine is survived by her sons, Joseph E Bertagnolli Jr (Nita-deceased) Richard A Bertagnolli (Libby). Grandchildren, Brandi (David), Daniel (Jamie), Stephen (Katie). Great-grandchildren, Christian, Ethan, Elijah, Shiloh, Remy, and Banks (Due in October). Her sister, Marie Van Devander (Hermon). As well as many other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos Parrish, Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 10:00 am. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00am until the service time.

Interment will follow in Belforest Catholic Cemetery.
