It is with both sorrow and joyful hope that we announce the passing of Clarence Harrison Bishop, who went to be with our Lord on December 27, 2025, at the age of 93, peacefully at home.
Clarence was born on June 24, 1932, and was raised in Baldwin County, a fourth-generation resident whose family roots in farming stretched back to the late 1800s. He was the loving spouse of Sandra Brown Bishop, and together they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year.
Clarence was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His three children—Mona (Danny Barfield), Doug (Lisa), and Ross (Terri)—along with 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, were the center of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron Bishop and Ruby Leavins Bishop, as well as five brothers.
Clarence proudly served his country during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Upon returning home, he joined the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), continuing to support both organizations throughout his life.
In 1956, Clarence and Sandra founded B & B Pecan Company, and he remained an active member of the Alabama Pecan Growers Association since its inception in the early 1960s. A lifelong servant to his community, Clarence was a charter member of the Thomas Hospital Board beginning in 1960 and played a key role in bringing a modern hospital to Fairhope. He served as a Baldwin County Commissioner for 12 years, during which time he was instrumental in securing the land and building for the Fairhope Satellite Courthouse.
Clarence was also a charter member of the KOER Mardi Gras organization, helping bring the first Mardi Gras parade to Fairhope in 1984. He was a dedicated member of the Rotary Club for 40 years, exemplifying a life of service above self.
A faithful member of Fairhope United Methodist Church for 70 years, Clarence served on numerous committees that helped expand the church’s facilities. His favorite role, however, was simply ushering people into the church, greeting all with warmth and kindness.
