Cleo Jones De Laney, of Spanish Fort, Alabama, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, at the age of 101.

Cleo was born in Chilton County, Alabama, to the late A.B. Jones and Gladys Herrod Jones. She was raised on her family’s peach farm, where she learned the enduring values of hard work, kindness, and faith. She grew up attending Alpine Baptist Church, where her devotion to God was first nurtured and continued throughout her life. During her years raising a family in Mobile, Alabama, Cleo was an active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Christ Church Cathedral and St. Francis Episcopal Church, Dauphin Island. In her later years, she found a spiritual home at St. John’s Catholic Church, where she remained a devoted parishioner.

Cleo was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chris C. De Laney. Together they shared a long and devoted marriage, raising four boys: David (Elaine), Bryan (Neill), Michael (Celia), and Robin (Cathy). Cleo was also the proud grandmother of Brooks, Drew, Mark, Matthew, Walt, Maggie, Wilson, Cleo, Hollis and Catherine, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride, along with her 14 great grandchildren.

Cleo will be remembered for her grace, warmth, and unwavering faith. Her life was one of quiet strength, deep devotion, and steadfast love for her family. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who shared in her life and supported her with love, care and friendship throughout the years. We especially appreciate the years of devotion and unfailing love and assistance provided to Cleo by Prince Williams and Rose Collins, and the loving care of Marshelle, Regina, Deborah, Dorothy, Netta, and Ann, without whose help we would have been lost.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 13, 11am, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Hwy 225, Bromley, Alabama.
