Dave Macey Kirkconnell

March 20, 1935 – January 27, 2026

Dave Macey Kirkconnell, a man of the sea, a patriot, and a devoted family patriarch, passed away on January 27, 2026, due to complications from a stroke suffered in August 2025. He was 90 years old.

A Life of Adventure

Born on March 20, 1935, on the island of Utila in the Bay Islands of Honduras, Dave’s life was defined by movement and courage. He immigrated to the United States and earned his citizenship by serving as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. Following his service, he briefly chased the bright lights of California to try his hand at acting. While he enjoyed his time in front of the camera, his true calling was on the water.

Dave spent his career as an ocean-going tugboat captain for several international oil companies. He spent his final 30 working years in Egypt and the Suez Canal. His legendary work ethic and expertise were immortalized by Tidewater Marine, which honored his three decades of service by naming one of their largest vessels after him: The Kirkconnell Tide.

Devotion to Family

Upon his retirement, Dave returned home to Fairhope to care for his beloved wife, DyAnn, during her long battle with illness. He was a man who valued his independence, but valued his family more. He adored his children and took immense pride in watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. Though he fell ill in 2025, he remained the heart of the family, even getting to see photos of his newest great-grandson, Holden, born just weeks before Dave’s passing.

Family Legacy

Dave was preceded in death by his cherished wife, DyAnn Kirkconnell; his daughter, Raquel Teichmiller; and several siblings.

He is survived by:

His Children: Michelle Davis, Claudine Lipscomb, and Charlton Kirkconnell, all of Fairhope.
