It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of David Erle Lindsey, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and devoted member of his community, who departed this life on June 9, 2026, in Spanish Fort, Alabama. Born on May 8, 1940, in Birmingham, Alabama, David’s life was distinguished by a remarkable journey of service, leadership, steadfast faith in the Lord, and heartfelt connection to those around him.
After graduating from Baldwin County High School, he went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Business Administration from Rhodes College in Memphis. After serving six years in the Army Reserve, he obtained a Master in Business Administration in Management and Finance from the University of Memphis and a Master of Science degree in Hospital and Health Services Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He also served on the faculty at the University of South Alabama teaching courses in business finance, economics, real estate, investments, and international business.
Professionally, David worked at Southern Capital Services, where he was a Certified Financial Planner and he served as the firm’s Director of Operations. His contributions did not end there; he also formerly served with pride on the Board of Directors at Westminster Village and he served as an Elder at his beloved Government Street Presbyterian Church.
David was renowned as a consummate people person, a quality that endeared him to many. His most treasured moments were spending time with his family and supporting his grandchildren in all their numerous activities. He also loved watching the sunsets at the family cottage in Orange Beach.
His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he leaves behind his devoted wife of 61 years, Jeanie H. Lindsey. He is survived by his daughters, Heather Hettinger (Ed) and Meg Brown (Charlie), who carry forward his legacy through their own families. His pride and joy extended to four grandchildren: Olivia and Lucy Hettinger, Mary and Sims Brown, each of whom absolutely adored him. He is also mourned and remembered by his sister, Gaye Lindsey, and his brother Donald Lindsey (Linda).
The Memorial Service honoring David Erle Lindsey will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026 at 10:00 am. at Government Street Presbyterian Church, located at 300 Government Street in Mobile, Alabama. This gathering will provide an opportunity for all who knew him to celebrate a life well-lived. David’s spirit will forever remain a guiding light for all who had the honor of calling him family and friend.
