It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David Wiskerchen, who left us on July 7, 2025, after bravely battling an illness that affected his balance and mobility for over a decade. David lived a life marked by dedication, service, a deep love for his family and friends, and adventures in the outdoors. A proud Marine veteran and civilian contractor, he made significant contributions to his country in his work, all while nurturing his passions for hunting, fishing, and sports.
David was born on Holy Saturday, 1965 in Colorado Springs, CO. The family moved to Spain where his father was stationed. Dave was independent, outgoing and capable from an early age. The best story, among many that his mother loved to tell, was when the school called about Dave not showing up for the first week of kindergarten. They found that while playing hooky, Dave had been hanging out with the Spanish workers on base housing and gladly sharing his lunch with them. The family settled in Belt, Montana where David grew up and developed a lifelong love for hunting and fishing, and a passion for playing sports like football, boxing, and basketball. A highlight of his senior year at Belt Valley High School was being named All-Conference in football, even though injury limited his playing time that year. He went on to serve in the Marine Corps, keeping Harrier jets and their pilots safely in the air then transitioning to a long career with advanced pilot training programs. First, with A-4 Skyhawks, where he played a vital role during Desert Storm, supporting the Free Kuwait Air Force and later in the T-45 Goshawk program. His commitment to excellence and unwavering work ethic were hallmarks of his character.
David met Karyn, his future wife, while they were both in Marine Corps training in Memphis. Together, they completed their enlistment and built a loving family, welcoming their son, Zach. David cherished the time spent in the great outdoors, pursuing deer and elk across the landscapes of Montana, Mississippi, and Colorado. He also enjoyed scuba diving when working overseas. He shared these passions for the outdoors and sports with his son whom he raised to hunt and fish in Mississippi from fishing in Okatibee lake, to hunting in Chunky and Kemper County.
David Wiskerchen was the most capable, hardworking, and kind person anyone could know. He leaves behind a legacy of love, respect, and dedication that will forever be remembered. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. And his memory will be a source of comfort and inspiration.
David was pre-deceased by his mother, Lou Wiskerchen. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Karyn McGuire of Meridian, MS; his son, Zach Wiskerchen of Nashville, TN; his father, Bernard Wiskerchen of Belt, MT; his sisters, Lisa (Don) Gregory of Great Falls, MT, and Bernadette (Kevin) Johnson of Kalispell, MT; his pups Scruffy and Shaggy; his brothers-in-law, Russ (Sallie) McGuire of Waldorf, MD, Bill (Debi) McGuire of Walkersville, MD, Gerry (Tracy) McGuire of Huntingtown, MD; his sister-in-law Trish McGuire (Joe), many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews; along with many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
