Obituary

  1. It is with somber reverence that we announce the loss of Dr. Michael Lang
  2. Reeves on June 14, 2026, at the age of 82. After a long battle with COPD and
  3. Congestive Heart Failure, Doc went peacefully with friends and family by his
  4. side, and now rests in the loving arms of our Lord.

  5. Michael L. Reeves was born May 11, 1944, into the Baptist church, the son of
  6. George W. Reeves, a north Alabama coal miner, and his wife Evelyn M.
  7. Douglas. After graduating high school, he served six years in the U.S. Army
  8. Reserve with the 883rd Quartermaster Company in Sheffield, Alabama,
  9. receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1972. He then earned his Bachelor of
  10. Science from the University of North Alabama before answering his calling to
  11. medicine at the Facultad de Medicina of the University of Michoacán in
  12. Mexico, where he also became fluent in Spanish. He completed the Fifth
  13. Pathway program at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, and
  14. his internship and residency at the State University of New York at Stony
  15. Brook.

  16. Licensed in New York in 1981 and in Alabama in 1982, Michael devoted his
  17. life’s work to the people of Alabama. He practiced family medicine from 1982
  18. to 1994 before turning his heart to geriatric care, a field he served faithfully
  19. for the rest of his career. He was President of Continuity Health Care, Inc.,
  20. worked with Accountability Health Care, and served as Practice Group Leader
  21. for IPC Alabama. In 2003 he earned his Certified Medical Director credential
  22. through the American Medical Directors Association, and for nearly three
  23. decades he served as Medical Director of Capitol Hill Health & Rehabilitation
  24. in Montgomery.

  25. He gave generously of himself to his profession. Holding privileges at Jackson
  26. Hospital in Montgomery and Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville, he
  27. served at Jackson Hospital on the Emergency Room, Ethics, and Infectious
  28. Disease committees; chaired the Quality Assurance Committee and the
  29. Department of Family Practice; and rose to serve as Chief of Staff. He sat on
  30. the Board of Directors and served as President of the Alabama Medical
  31. Directors Association, and was a member of the American Academy of Family
  32. Physicians, the American Medical Directors Association, the Alabama Medical
  33. Association, and the Montgomery County Medical Association. He also
  34. mentored the next generation as a Preceptor in the
  35. Montgomery FamilyPractice Residency Program and lent his voice
  36. to several health care speaker bureaus.

  37. Beyond medicine, Michael had many passions. In his youth he was an avid
  38. runner and football player. As a true son of the state, he loved Alabama
  39. football his whole life. He appreciated nature and craft; he built furniture and
  40. worked wood by hand, loved and collected art, loved music — from country
  41. and blues to opera — farmed, gardened, and found joy in all of it. He was a
  42. man who lived many lives, from a high school quarterback, to a youth of the
  43. ’60s hitchhiking across the country, to a doctor in Mexico, New York,
  44. Alabama, and across the Southeast.

  45. He was a husband, a father, a businessman, a grandfather, and above all,
  46. a friend to anyone in need of one.
  47. It was his shameless curiosity, his humor, his nomadic spirit, and his
  48. remarkable love for people that we will remember most. May we take him
  49. with us, not just in memory, but in how we live day to day.

  50. He is survived by his three daughters Kathryn (Eric), Rachael (Tommy), and
  51. Alexandra; his five surviving grandchildren Tori, Zac, Lucy, Rye, and Trey; his
  52. loving life partner and nurse Robbin Runels; his godchildren Charles “Trey”
  53. (Erin), Will, and Luke (Clara); his beloved God-grandchildren Wystan and
  54. Cian; his daily four-legged companions, Chanel (predeceased November 25,
  55. 2025) and the latest addition to the family, Sophie girl.

  56. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service
  57. at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Fairhope United Methodist
  58. Church, 155 South Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532.
