Edra Madlyn Smith Hill
Edra Madlyn Smith Hill passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026, at the age of 94.
Edra was born on January 14, 1931, in Miami, Florida. She spent her childhood in Hueytown, Alabama, where she developed the values of hard work, faith, and family that would guide her throughout her life.
She married the love of her life, Felix J. Hill Jr., and together they built a wonderful life in Bessemer, Alabama, where they lovingly raised their three children. Edra enjoyed a successful career as a Realtor in the Hoover area, earning recognition as a multi-million dollar producer.
Outside of her career, Edra found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She especially loved spending time reading her Bible and keeping up with current events through The Wall Street Journal. She also enjoyed quilting and crafting, creating beautiful handmade treasures that will continue to be cherished by those who received them. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. Edra was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Felix J. Hill Jr.; her parents, Madison and Pearl Shelby Smith; her brother, Madison Hamilton "M.H." Smith Jr. (Orlean); her brother, Shelby Smith (Frances); and her sister, Vera Kirby (Herby).
She is survived by her brother, Paul Smith (Janet), as well as her children, Kay Hill Wheeler of Daphne, Alabama; Michael (Mike) David Hill Sr. and his wife, Debbie, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama; and Lance Wayne Hill of Orange Beach, Alabama.
She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Laura Hill Maness (Jason) of Arlington, Alabama; Michael Hill Jr. (Leticia) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Jonathan Hill (Samantha) of Birmingham, Alabama; Patrick Hill (Ame) of Daphne, Alabama; and Jenna Hill Rachal (Josh) of Montrose, Alabama.
Edra was the proud great-grandmother of ten great-grandchildren: Zack Hill, Will Hill, Payton Hill, Madison Rachal, Myers Rachal, McKenzie Rachal, River Maness, Jay Maness, Marcus Hill, and Caleb Hill. Each brought her immense joy and countless reasons to smile.
A celebration of Edra's life will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope, Alabama.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m., with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
