Erwin L. “Butch” Lewis, Jr. passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026. He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Carol, who was his beloved companion and partner in life.
Butch attended Satsuma High School, where he played football before joining the United States Army. While stationed in Poiters, France, he continued his love of football by playing for USA Conzeur Cavaliers.
Following his military service, Butch built a long and accomplished career working for numerous oil companies, chemical plants, and power plants. His work eventually took him overseas, where he helped build power plants in the Virgin Islands. He was a proud member of Local 89, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
Butch was an avid animal lover and will be remembered for his thoughtful nature, engaging personality, and the true gentleman he was. He and Carol shared many special interests and memories together, including bird watching and visiting historical sites throughout Baldwin County.
During their time at home, Butch and Carol enjoyed watching British detective stories and The Pet Collective. These simple moments together were among the many things that made their life special.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin L. Lewis, Sr. and Elizabeth; one brother; two sisters and his son Marc Lewis.
He will be deeply missed by Carol, his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, humor, love of animals, and gentle spirit will remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
