Eugene Irving Odell, age 93, a resident of Spanish Fort, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

Gene is preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Odell.

He is survived by his children, Terri Davila, David (Staci) Odell, Audri (Bert) Richards; grandchildren, Sean Wyant (Jennifer Bechtel), Riley Odell, James Odell; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Gene loved tennis, sailing, and family vacations.

Dr. Odell held a doctorate in mechanical engineering from The Ohio State University and was a respected professor at the University of South Alabama for many years. He had a love for all things science and math and shared his knowledge with not only his students, but also his children. He worked diligently to have his engineering department accredited. He also wrote many papers and had numerous work projects going on. He became heavily involved in the Baja Mini Racing competitions alongside his students.
