Frances Jean McCord Nelson of Fairhope, AL, passed away Monday, May 26, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on December 20, 1930, to Edwin and Earnest McCord, she grew up in the Bessemer area and graduated from Hueytown High School.
To know Frances, was to love her. She never met a stranger and was always genuinely interested in the lives of everyone around her. She was known to tell the best stories of her own childhood and events throughout her life. Lovingly known as “Gaga” to her family, Frances will always be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and ability to show love, truly living out the fruits of the spirit.
She is preceded in death by both of her parents, her four older sisters (Geneva “Sis”, Elizabeth “Bet”, Alma “Bea” and Evelyn “Eb”) and her oldest daughter, Robin Carol Oliver. She is survived by her daughter, Tena Nelson Hailey, her beloved grandchildren, Patrick Michael Oliver, Courtney Renae Wingate (Michael), Adrienne Marie Sherrill (Ben) and her three great-grandchildren whom she adored, Natalie Frances Wingate, Delaney Lynn Wingate, Paxton Adam Oliver along with a host of nieces and nephews.
She was a member of 3 Circle Church-Fairhope. Until just a few years ago, she was able to attend in-person but was so thankful for the online option to continue worship from home. In her last years, some of her most favorite things to do was going on outings to the Fairhope pier and enjoying a Whit’s custard cup while watching “her” birds, sitting on the porch with coffee and bible and loved visits from her family. She will be greatly missed.
Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all” Proverbs 31:29
