Gail Golson Phillips

October 13, 1934 — May 1, 2025

Fairhope

Gail Golson Phillips, 90, lost her battle with cancer and went to be with the Lord on May 1, 2025. Born on October 13, 1934, Gail attended the University of Alabama and Huntington College. She was raised in Fort Deposit, Alabama, where she married and later lost her first husband Jack P. Golson to an automobile accident in 1970. She was very active in the Fort Deposit United Methodist Church and served as the church pianist for many years.

Gail was also the choral director for Fort Deposit Academy and a piano teacher. She was an active member of the Fort Deposit Arts Council and was a founding member of Calico Fort Arts and Crafts Fair.

In the mid-eighties Gail moved to Montgomery, where she served as the Alumni Director for Huntingdon College and became a member of Frazier United Methodist Church. It was during this time that she met and married Lyman (Phil) W. Phillips, Jr. Gail and Phil later moved to Destin, Florida where they were active members of the Destin United Methodist Church. Then in 1999 they moved to Fairhope and joined the Fairhope United Methodist Church where they attended the Friends In Faith Sunday school class. She and Phill enjoyed traveling and entertaining their friends. Gail dearly loved spending time with her family, friends, church family, and her Homestead Village family. Her family would like to thank Home Instead with our sincerest gratitude to her dedicated caregivers Tiffiny Freeman, Jacque Melroy, and Annitta Parham and the compassionate staff at The Retreat, Hospice by Saad for their exceptional care.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents Paul Harrison Goldsmith and Glenn Davis Goldsmith, her first husband Jack Parmer Golson, Sr, and husband Lyman Waldo (Phil) Phillips, grandson William Perry Singleton, brother-in-law Clifford Lawrence Courtney Jr., step-daughter, Susan Phillips and step-grandson Matthew Albert Tucker.

She is survived by her son, Jack Parmer (Kim) Golson, Jr., Mathews, Alabama, daughters, Lisa Golson (William) Singleton, Greenville, Alabama, and Carla Golson (Lee) St. Peter, Destin, Florida. She is also survived by grandchildren, Brittany Singleton (Phillip) Weaver, Jack Parmer Golson III, Abigail St. Peter, and great-grandsons, Phillip Glyn Weaver, III and Samuel Perry Weaver, sister, Glenda Goldsmith Courtney of Niceville, FL.

Stepson Allen C. (DeeDee) Phillips, Destin, Florida, Step-grandchildren Allen Miller (Laurie) Phillips, Ashley Phillips (Brendan) McMahon and their children also of Destin, FL.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, May 8, at 1:00pm at Fairhope United Methodist Church, 155 South Section Street, Fairhope, Alabama 36532, with Rev. Michael Precht and Dr. Ann Pearson officiating. Visitation will immediately follow the service in Wesley Hall.
