Gary Anthony Lefan was born on May 4, 1953. He succumbed to injuries from a fall and died on January 8, 2026, at the age of 72.

He was the son of Mayme and Floyd LeFan and grew up in the small town of Cherokee, Alabama.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Williams LeFan, one stepdaughter, Janet Shellem Gagnon (Jeff) and one brother, Terry A. LeFan, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, father, 2 sisters and a brother.

After graduation from Cherokee High School, he attended the University of North Alabama where he graduated with a BS degree in Mathematics. He went on to do graduate work at Auburn University where he received an MS degree in Mathematics. He loved Auburn football. He then moved to Columbus, GA to teach mathematics at Columbus State University where he met his future wife. He returned to Auburn to teach for 3 years . He and his wife then moved to Dothan, Alabama where he taught the rest of his career at Wallace College. While there, we had the opportunity to host one of the students on the golf team. Tim Mitchell was like a son and became one of his best friends. Gary retired in 2011 and moved to Gulf Shores , AL. He and his wife then settled in Foley , AL. He was an avid golfer and developed many friendships from the sport.
