Geneva “Francine” V. Carter was born on October 6, 1954, in Mobile, Alabama, and peacefully entered eternal rest on May 2, 2026.
A lifelong resident of Montrose, Alabama, Francine was a proud graduate of Fairhope High School, Class of 1972. During her school years, she formed lifelong friendships that she truly treasured, remaining close with many of her classmates throughout the years. She recently attended a Class of 1972 reunion, where she was overjoyed to reconnect and share in those special bonds once again.
Francine faithfully served with the Baldwin County Board of Education until her retirement in 2016. Even after retirement, her heart for helping others never changed, as she continued her work of care and compassion as a devoted caregiver to Mrs. Lydia Nannie.
Francine lived a life marked by quiet strength, kindness, and genuine love for others. She did not seek recognition, but her impact was deeply felt by all who knew her. She had a special way of making people feel seen, heard, and cared for. Whether you were family, a friend, or someone she had just met, Francine welcomed you with warmth, encouragement, and a willingness to help in any way she could.
She found great joy in simple things—music, cooking, and time spent with those she loved. Her “All Blues Saturday” tradition was something she truly enjoyed, along with her love for western movies and television shows. Francine’s kitchen was filled with love, and her sweet potato pies became a cherished favorite at holidays and family gatherings, bringing everyone together.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Leslie “Dan” Valrie and Frances Valrie; her brothers, Andrew Valrie and Leslie Valrie; her husband, Mickey Ray Carter; and her cherished daughter, Valarie Nicole Carter.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted children, Abram L. Bowie of Montrose, Alabama, and Tara (Alvin) Smith of Spanish Fort, Alabama; her grand-dog, Smithfield of Spanish Fort, Alabama; her godchild, Symphony (Kebreau) Aldophe of Norwalk, Connecticut; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her dear friends, affectionately known as the “Girls of 1972,” Barbara Brown, Eunice Watkins, and Rita Vaughn.
Though she may be gone from our sight, Francine’s love, kindness, and the memories she created will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness.” — 2 Timothy 4:7–8 (KJV)
