George Edward Anderson

George Edward Anderson, 85, of Spanish Fort, Alabama, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025. Born on October 29, 1939, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, George was the oldest son of the late Otho Albert and Winnifred Anderson (Beasley).

He lived a life defined by faith, adventure, and a deep love for family and community. George began his career around 1960 as a fireman and later became an engineer, driving trains for L&N Railroad, which later became Seaboard Systems and then CSX Railroad. He retired from CSX after a long and dedicated career, leaving a legacy of hard work and commitment. A man of many passions, George was a private pilot who not only flew planes but also built an airplane from scratch, taking to the skies in his own creation. Known for his adventurous spirit, he once unintentionally flew under a bridge on the Mississippi River, surprising his brother and passenger, Harry. In another lighthearted tale, George playfully tossed a chicken from his plane to test its flying ability, a story that always brought laughter. His love for mechanics extended to working on cars, where his skill and ingenuity shone.

Above all, George’s life was defined by his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. A devoted member of First Baptist Church of Fairhope, he lived out his faith through actions, often visiting nursing homes to play the violin and sing gospel music, bringing joy to residents. His love for gospel music filled his home and heart, and he shared that passion with others through his singing. George also enjoyed square dancing with his beloved wife, Barbara (née Lappage), creating cherished memories on the dance floor. Known for his infectious laughter, warm spirit, and a notorious sweet tooth, George had a particular fondness for banana pudding, lovingly made by Barbara. This treat earned him the affectionate nickname “Pudd” among family and friends. He touched the lives of those he met with his joy and kindness.

George is preceded in death by his parents, Otho and Winnifred Anderson; brothers, Othel Everett, Charles Paul, Jerry M, Billie Don; and sister, Sue Joe.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Anderson; his brother, Harry Lewis Anderson; his sister, Kathleen Goss; his daughters, Omelia Elizabeth Danford (husband Joseph Robert Danford), daughter, Christina Nicole Danford, son, Joseph Robert Danford III) and Kathy Darlene Ulland (son David Gregory Ulland); and his son, George Michael Anderson.
