Harry Cichowski

HMC Harry Cichowski USN Ret (Chief) passed away at 5:15 a.m. on 2 February 2023 at the age of 93. He was born in Pittsburgh PA to Harry and Martha Cichowski residing there for 18 years. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1947 and served as a Hospital Corpsman aboard many ships and hospitals during his career in both the Atlantic and Pacific fleet including Vietnam. He retired in 1968 and began his second career as a lab technician with the Mobile County Health Department employed for 26 years. While working he pursued his education, attending both Faulkner State Junior College (now Coastal AL Community College) and University of South Alabama earning his batchelors degree in psychology. He was a resident of Fairhope AL for 55 years and was married to his beautiful wife Elvera for 63 years preceding him in death. Together they had 2 children, son Leonard (Diane) and daughter Catherine. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and was president for 7 years of St. Vincent De Paul society, 3rd & 4th degree Knight in Knights of Columbus holding many leadership positions. He was an usher for 35 years at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. During his life he met many people and said, "I enjoy all the people and love talking and helping them." His last words were, "Tell all my friends I will miss them, and I thank them for putting up with me. I leave this life with many happy memories and may God bless each and every one of you. And may God bless the United States of America." The family is also thankful for Shannon his caregiver for her many years of compassionate and attentive service. Visitation will be held Friday, February 10, 2023, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm with Rosary at 6:00pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 10:00am at St. Lawrence Church. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Fairhope. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Retreat at SAADS Hospice in Mobile AL.
