Jack Daly Cummings, a native of Mobile and longtime resident of Montrose, Alabama, and Burnsville, North Carolina, died on July 13, 2025. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Marylin Brown Cummings, his second wife, Rosemary Naef Cummings, his parents, Marl Marcellus Cummings, Sr., and Anna Belle Courtright Cummings, and his brothers, Marl Joseph Cummings and Marl Marcellus Cummings, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Ann Klumb, of Fairhope, his children, Catherine Cummings Bradley (Tom), John Reid Cummings (Rebecca), Thomas O'Kelly Cummings (Maria), Susan Cummings Guillotte (Mike), Steve Harris Funchess (Lynn), Vicki Sue Hall (Joe), his grandchildren, Carradine Calderwood Bradley Smith (Damon, deceased), Ryan O’Kelly Cummings (Christy), Abigail Walton Bradley-Tyler (Ren), Codey Koppersmith Cummings (Nicole), Mary Chamberlin Courtright Cummings (Alex), Samantha Lauren Guillotte, Rachel Lynn Guillotte, Carlie Ann Funchess, Richard Stewart O’Neill, Annie Laurie O’Neill, Emily Helen O’Neill, and Steven Charles O’Neill, and his great-grand-children, Rylie Isobel Cummings, James Lucas Cummings, Cooper Callaghan Cummings, and Callie Marie Cummings.

Mr. Cummings graduated from the Metairie Park Country Day School in Metairie, Louisiana, in 1949. As a student at the University of Alabama, he majored in radio and television and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. After his graduation in 1953, he served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain.

After many years in the commercial construction business in Mobile, Mr. Cummings turned exclusively to residential development and homebuilding along the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay. Notable developments included Montrose Village, Hillwood, and Woodbridge in Montrose, as well as Gayfer Court, Shadowood, and St. James Place Apartments in Fairhope. In 1978, he moved to the mountains of western North Carolina to develop and build homes in Mt. Mitchell Lands, Alpine Village, and The Sanctuary. In 2001, he returned to Alabama and continued development and construction in Daphne and Fairhope, and on Dauphin Island. He retired in 2005.

Mr. Cummings was one of the founders of Bayside Academy in 1970 and served as a long-time member of its Board of Directors. For many years, he also owned and operated the Fairhope Hardware Store and the Harbor Shop. He was an excellent golfer, a competitive sailor, an avid Crimson Tide football fan, and later in life, developed a deep affection for North Carolina basketball.

He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Fairhope. Graveside services will be held at Montrose Cemetery on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 10:30 AM. Following the service, there will be a reception at Baytreat, 18249 Scenic Highway 98 in Fairhope. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Salvation Army.
