Jacqueline Ann Duemler Hollenberg Barnes was born on February 3, 1938, in St. Louis Missouri as the sixth of seven children. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Henry and Adele Catherine Meyer, her first husband, Robert Hollenberg, her youngest daughter, Deanna Hollenberg, her second husband, Lester Barnes, her stepdaughter, Cathy Barnes and three of her siblings, Robert, Jeane and Yvonne. She is survived by her eldest daughter, Victoria Hollenberg, stepson, Steven Barnes, her two grandsons, Jeffery Barnes and Kevin Barnes and three of her siblings, John, Annette and Richard. And numerous nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces, and three great grandchildren

Jacqueline passed on July 27, 2026, after a long, hard fought battle with cancer.

Her education included a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia, secondary certification from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and a master’s degree in human resource management from National University in Evanston, Illinois and Organizational Development Certification from National Training Laboratories.

Jacqueline’s professional careers included 12 years teaching, grades 7-12 and teaching at a high school vocational center (mainly English). She then entered private industry, supervision training for a regional petroleum and marketing company and finally as Manager of Employee and Organizational Development for the Uno-Ven company, a refining and marketing company, located in suburban Chicago. She retired from CITGO Petroleum Company in 1997, following 15 years of service.

In retirement she served her communities in several capacities. This included serving her local church communities as she had throughout her life, writing and editing a local newsletter and service as the President of the Board of Directors for the 100-unit retirement village where she and Les resided in Gulf Shores Alabama and contribution through various organizations. She was known for her leadership skills and myriad creative endeavors. Some of which included writing poetry, sewing and photography.

Her myriad family and many friends and colleagues will miss her creativity, leadership, guidance and productivity, her sense of family, her unceasing sense of humor and her determination to enjoy life and make it better, despite the numerous tragedies she has faced. She considered this quote a daily reminder “In the midst of winter, I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer” Her faith was the basis for her summer.

Jacquie hopes that she left memories that will bring smiles to those who knew her as she often quoted George Bernard Shaw, “Life does not cease to be funny when someone dies, any more than it ceases to be serious when someone laughs”. Memories bring peace and loss shared eases pain.
