Jacqueline M. Lanier, 88, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Jacqueline was born on September 21, 1937, in Elba, Alabama, to Wilson and Kate Meek. She graduated from Elba High School in 1955 and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Troy University.

Jacqueline devoted more than 33 years to teaching elementary school, spending the majority of her career at Scenic Heights Elementary School in Pensacola, Florida. Her patience, kindness, and steady encouragement left a lasting impression on countless students and families throughout the years. Even after her retirement, she cherished attending the Scenic Heights retired teacher luncheons, staying connected with lifelong friends and fellow educators, and seeing former students in the community.

She was an active member of the Pensacola Women’s Club for many years and enjoyed playing bridge with both her ladies group and neighborhood couples. Jacqueline loved gathering with friends, hosting others, and creating a welcoming home for everyone around her.

Jacqueline was also a charter member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church, where she faithfully served her church community for decades. She volunteered on the Alter Guild, hosted newcomer and Vestry dinners, helped lead the Angel Tree program for children in need, delivered Meals on Wheels for many years, and served on the Holy Cross cookbook committee. Her quiet generosity and servants heart were evident in every part of her life.

More than anything, Jackie cherished her family. “Gammy” was thoughtful, gentle, endlessly supportive, and deeply loved by those fortunate enough to know her. She found her greatest joy and time spent with family, whether gathered around the table, celebrating holidays, attending grandchildren’s events, or simply being together.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Cecil Delano “Buddy” Lanier; her parents; and her brother, Billy Wilson Meek.

She is survived by her two daughters, Jillyn Lanier Grace (John) and Lisa Lanier Carter (Doug); five grandchildren, Bryant Grace (Katie), Trey Carter, Katherine Grace Tucker (Adam), Kate Lanier Carter, and William Grace; and three great-grandchildren, Charlotte Grace, John Grace, and Liam Tucker.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, June 8, at 10:30 am at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Pensacola, Florida, with a reception to follow in Lanier Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Episcopal Church.
