James Crawford Woodley, of Gulf Shores, AL, affectionately known as Jim, was born and raised in Tuscaloosa. He departed this life on October 8, 2024, at the age of 66 surrounded by the warmth of his loving family. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend who enriched the lives of all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Marcie, his three children, Maggie Woodley Pearson (Will), Grace Woodley, and Joe Woodley, his grandson John Pearson, and his sisters, Susan Woodley Raines (Jim), and Dolly Woodley Poteet (Jim). In addition to his immediate family, Jim will be remembered fondly by his many relatives and friends who appreciated his kindness, generosity, and humor.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. Woodley and Lillian Charlotte Hayes Woodley of Tuscaloosa, AL; and his brother, Robert H. Woodley, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA.
Jim is a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School and the University of Alabama, where he claimed to have invented “The Wave”. He was a loyal Alabama fan, Roll Tide! After college he moved to Washington, DC where he worked in a photography studio and met his wife, Marcie. He later owned and operated a boat storage marina in Gulf Shores on the Intracoastal Waterway for nearly 30 years. He enjoyed taking care of his customers, many of whom became good friends. He worked hard to ensure they had a good time out on their boats.
Jim had a passion for many things. He especially enjoyed outings with family and friends such as scuba diving, sailing, puttering around on the boat, and taking the kids tubing and skiing. He and Marcie enjoyed raising their family in the beautiful town of Gulf Shores, AL.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 19th at Mile Marker 158 restaurant at the Wharf in Orange Beach at 1:00PM.
The family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to the wonderful nurses and doctors at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center, HCA Florida West Hospital, and VITAS hospice care.
