James Floyd Roberts, Sr., 83, lovingly known as “JR,” was a longtime resident of Daphne, Alabama. He passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, of natural causes, with his family by his side.
JR proudly served in the United States Navy before building a career that reflected his strong work ethic and mechanical skill. He spent many years as a truck driver before transitioning into work as a heavy equipment mechanic, eventually opening his own forklift repair shop. Outside of work, JR also spent time as a USSA umpire, a role that brought him great enjoyment and became the source of some of his most cherished memories.
JR was also a devoted Alabama football fan, and Saturdays during football season were something he looked forward to. Game day often began well before kickoff as he decided what would go on the grill and planned his day around watching the Crimson Tide play. It was a simple tradition he truly enjoyed and one his family will fondly remember.
JR leaves behind his daughter, Christy Wilson and her husband, Onree; his son, James Roberts, Jr. and his wife, April; two granddaughters, Jessica Cutright and her husband, Colin, and Madeline Grace Roberts; and his great-grandson, Everett James Cutright.
JR will also be remembered by his extended family, including nieces and nephews, along with close friends who were an important part of his life and shared many meaningful memories with him over the years.
JR is now reunited in Heaven with his wife, Sherry Roberts; his parents, Paul and Thelma Roberts; his sister, Viola Bailey; and his brother, Paul Roberts, Jr.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 2:00 until 3:00pm, at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope. He will be laid to rest immediately following at Memory Gardens of Fairhope.
