James Russell "Jim" Thomas

James Russell Thomas, 84 years, of Foley, Alabama, was drawn into the arms of his Lord at his home on Monday, May 5, 2025 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born October 21, 1940 in Manistique, Michigan to the late Russell Klon and Loretta Rose (LaMourie). James was a 1959 Graduate of Manistique High School and enlisted in the United States Army in February 1962 as a Radio Signal Operator who served his country honorably and proudly.

He married the love of his life and best friend of 61 years, Marilyn Jane Brown on December 28, 1963. He was a devoted husband and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. James touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all of his relatives and friends.

James retired from Ford Motor Company after 32 years working in the parts crib at the Woodhaven Stamping Plant. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion.

He was a devout Catholic and member of St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Foley, Alabama who prayed the rosary every day and never missed a Sunday Mass.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Thomas.

James is survived by his beloved bride, Marilyn, 2 loving children: Michael J. Thomas (Cynthia) of Holly, MI. and Lori A. Thomas of Foley, AL. 1 sister: Joanne M. Rice of Manistique, MI. 2 grandchildren: Kaitlin Thomas (Mason Vinton) and Kelsey (Kyle) Borstler. Great-grandson, Elijah Vinton and one on the way.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, 601 W. Laurel Avenue, Foley, Alabama 36535 on May 20, 2025 at 10:00am. Visitation will take place from 9:30am to 10:00am prior to the Mass.

Interment will immediately follow Mass in St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Cemetery.
