Jean Clarkson

d. September 28, 2024

Fairhope

Jean Clarkson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all she knew, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28, 2024. Born and raised in Bay Minette, AL, Jean spent the past 30 years as a resident of the Eastern Shore. Jean was a woman of many talents, always pursuing careers that demonstrated her unending compassion and love of people. She began her career as a Registered Nurse, working nights at Mobile Infirmary Oncology Unit. She later taught at-risk youth at Point Academy, a testament to her commitment to those less fortunate. In her latest chapter, she was the owner of Cybele’s boutique on Fairhope Avenue for 17 years, where she delighted in bringing a smile and a bit of fun to everyone she met. Beyond her commitment to professional endeavors, her most enduring legacy was her role as wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She delighted in making her house a home, cooking epic southern feasts like her mother always did, but making it uniquely “Jeannie.” Her home was a place filled with laughter, Willie Nelson and Patsy Cline, frequent dancing and the Alabama Crimson Tide. She loved her friends and family fiercely, but they loved her even more. It was impossible to not love Jean.

Jean is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, David Clarkson, and their children: John Clarkson (Holly), Peyton Clarkson (Brittain Youngblood), Betsy Glenday (Nigel), and Joanna Clarkson. She was a proud and loving grandmother to her two grandsons, Connor and Max Glenday and beloved sisters, Rosemary Tigrett and Janice Stanford. She is predeceased by her mother, Geraldine Stanford (2000) and her father, John Stanford (2012).

Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope, AL, followed by a service at 11:00 AM at St. James Episcopal Church in Fairhope, AL, Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

A private interment will take place at Memory Gardens in Fairhope, AL. A private reception will be held afterward at the Clarkson home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Boys and Girls Club or Rapahope Children’s Retreat Foundation (Camp Rap-a-Hope), two of Jean’s most beloved organizations.
