Jerome Benjamin "Rusty" Kilgore was born on October 19, 1927 at a fishing camp near Anniston, Alabama. Rusty died at home on July, 8, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Gertrude Kilgore, his spouse, Frances Hermecz Kilgore, his siblings, William, Gertrude & Kenneth Kilgore, his stepson, David Hermecz and his oldest grandchild, Bridget Hermecz.
He is survived by his stepchildren, Jim Hermecz, Denis (Patty) Hermecz, Vernon (Barbara) Hermecz, Julia George and Irene (Michael) Lowry, his seventeen grandchildren, Joy (Greg) Gervers, Damian (Cathy) Hermecz, Eric (Cindy) Hermecz, Holly (Fred) Kessler, Leda Hermecz, Nathan Hermecz, Bryant (Madoka) George, Ryan (Stephanie) Hermecz, Michael (Brittany) Hermecz, Lindsay Hermecz, Ashley Bowles, Katie (Cliff) George, Christopher (Lily) Hermecz, Rachel (Jim) Linz, Mark (LaTeisha) Hermecz, Hilary (William) Cunningham, Kyle (Brandie) Lowry and numerous great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his nephew, Michael Kilgore and nieces Terry (Bill) Ellis and Paula Robinson.
Rusty was an Army veteran and a Merchant Marine for forty-three years. He could sure tell some exciting sea stories about his experiences on numerous cargo ships and fun times in port cities all over the world.
He became a member of the Hermecz family in 1967 when he married Frances Hermecz, a widow and mother of six children, ranging in age from eight to nineteen. Rusty was a member of Saint Lawrence Catholic Church where he was involved with Knights of Columbus and Saint Vincent DePaul Society and was a member of the Fairhope Elks Lodge and VFW.
He will be sorely missed by family, friends and all his wonderful neighbors at Homestead Village.
