Jerry E. Wilson, born on September 2, 1941, in Spanish Fort, Alabama, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, in Mobile, Alabama. He was a beloved member of his community and is fondly remembered as a dedicated businessman and family man.
For many years, Jerry owned and operated Jerry's Sporting Goods, a venture he began in 1979. His commitment to providing quality goods and service made him a respected figure among his customers. A man of integrity and steadfastness, he poured his heart into his work and inspired those around him with his entrepreneurial spirit.
Jerry was not only devoted to his career but also to his faith and community. He was a valued member of the First Baptist Church of Spanish Fort, where he participated in the life of the church and built lasting friendships.
Jerry loved talking with every customer who walked through the door. Conversations often turned to proud stories about his grandchildren — from the baseball fields to the football fields and even the Million Dollar Band. He never shied away from sharing opinions on which coach should be fired, which coach was great, and anything else happening in the sports world. One could easily imagine him now catching up with old friends, talking about how the New York Yankees are going to look this year and debating whether Kalen DeBoer will make it at University of Alabama.
In addition to his professional and community accomplishments, Jerry served his country as a member of the National Guard. This service reflected his dedication to his values and to the people he cared about.
Jerry met the love of his life, Ann, when she was 15, and he was 17. They built a life rooted in love, loyalty, and commitment that spanned a lifetime. On February 16, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary — a testament to their enduring love and devotion.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann Wilson; his children, Debbie Gates and Mickey (Stephanie) Wilson; and his five cherished grandchildren: Brandon Gates, Brittney (Josh) Cowart, Chandler (Peyton) Wilson, Brady (Anna Brooke) Wilson, and Avery Wilson (Makayla Bledsoe). His legacy continues with his two great-grandchildren, Noah Byall Gates and Christopher Wilson.
Jerry is also survived by his sister, Helen Seale, and brother, Steve Wilson, who will carry forward his memory with love and fondness.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Wilson, and brother, Harry Wilson, whose spirits remain a part of the familial bond shared by Jerry's surviving family.
Funeral services will be held in the multipurpose room at the Spanish Fort Community Center on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends from 11:30am until 1:00 pm.
Interment will follow in Jubilee Memorial Gardens.
Jerry E. Wilson leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and a love for family that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be dearly missed by his friends, family, and all whose lives he touched.
