Jimmy Wayne Gandy, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on December 18, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of courage, compassion, and commitment to serving others. Born on May 17, 1949, Jimmy lived a life rich with purpose and dedication, touching the hearts of many during his journey on this earth.
Jimmy devoted a significant part of his life to law enforcement, serving with distinction as a Police Officer for the Fairhope Police Department for eight and a half years, where he earned the rank of Sergeant. His unwavering dedication continued for 30 years as a Deputy Sheriff for the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department. It was here that he truly made a mark, being nominated and awarded the Legislative Medal Of Honor for Law Enforcement on June 6, 2003. This accolade reflected his heroic actions during the rescue of a kidnapped child, a testament to his bravery and selflessness. Jimmy also has a long history of driving 18 wheelers for Crawford Beverage, Southwind Trucking, Everwood Treatment, and Charter buses for Colonial Trailways.
An alumnus of Robertsdale High School, class of 1967.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jimmy cherished the simple joys of life. He had a fondness for eating catfish, snacking on peanuts, and spending evenings watching westerns, especially Gunsmoke.
Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah Gandy. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 20th. He was a devoted father to Barbara Johnson and Bryan Gandy (from previous marriages), Kevin Gandy and Jason Gandy. His grandchildren, Katy Johnson, Kelly Johnson, Doshia Raplee, Carson Gandy, Landon Gandy, and 5 great Grandchildren were sources of immense pride for him, and his bond with them was deepened through countless cherished memories. He also leaves behind his siblings, Glenn Gandy(Mary) and Bernice Jerkins(Royce); one Aunt, Carolyn B. Garcia, with whom he shared a lifetime of experiences and laughter.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Obed and Odessa Gandy; one sister, Frances Lidgard; four brothers, Lamar Gandy, Larry Gandy, Phillip Gandy, and David Gandy.
A dog named Rudy and a cat named Milo were his loyal companions.
As we bid farewell to Jimmy Wayne Gandy, we honor a man whose spirit shined brightly through his acts of kindness and bravery. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him, reminding us all to be steadfast in our commitments, to love unconditionally, and to face life’s challenges with courage. Rest in peace, Jimmy. You will be greatly missed.
