Obituary – Jimmy “Jim” Morris Thomason

Jimmy “Jim” Morris Thomason of Fairhope died peacefully at his home on December 7, 2025. He was 94.

He is survived by his children, Tony Thomason (Michelle), Andy Thomason (Donna) and Doug Thomason (Gussie); grandchildren, Spenser Thomason (Holly), Eva Clark (Nick), Nick Thomason and Henry Thomason; great grandchildren, Cora and Cru Thomason, as well as his brother, Bob Thomason (Brenda), and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Eleanor Thomason, with whom he was married just days short of 72 years; by his parents, Eunice Rabern Thomason and Henry Walter Thomason; and two sisters, Dorothy Thomason Pittard and Jackie Thomason Liebherr.

Jim was born in Alpharetta, Georgia. He was a proud graduate of Geogia Tech, obtaining his bachelors degree in electrical engineering in 1958. During and after college, he proudly served in the United States Army. He worked many years for Westinghouse and Ashby, and became a realtor later in life after his retirement. He founded Transforming Leaders in Asia (TLA), a charitable organization that remains very active today under the leadership of Rev. Dr. A.K. Lama, training pastors and helping to build churches in Northeast India. In Birmingham, he was a member of Vestavia Hills Rotary, where he received his Paul Harris Fellow award, and he enjoyed participating with Fairhope Sunset Rotary while living in Fairhope. He was very active in ministry over the years and served as a deacon, a Sunday School teacher and a mission worker. Before moving to Fairhope in 2015, he and Eleanor were active in Shades Mountain Baptist, Brookwood Baptist, and First Baptist churches in Birmingham. Once they relocated to Fairhope to be near family, they became members of First Baptist Fairhope, where Jim forged wonderful Christian relationships in the church’s Friendship Class, even enjoying an 8-day Caribbean cruise with the group in April of this year. Jim lived a life of steadfast faith in Jesus Christ. As believers, we are all comforted to know that he is in the loving arms of his Savior today and forever, and in the great company of the family and friends that have gone before him.

For those who wish to help celebrate his wonderful life, the family will greet friends at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope on Friday, December 19, from 10:00 am to 11:30am, with a memorial service to follow in the chapel, beginning at 11:30. A short military salute with honors will follow at the Alabama State Veterans Cemetery in Spanish Fort at 2:00 pm with interment there with his wife at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in his memory to TLA Ministries at TLAUSA.org.

The family wishes to thank everyone at Community Hospice and Synergy Home Care for their compassionate and loving care of Jim during his last days. We also thank Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home of Fairhope for their kindness in helping the family with the arrangements during this difficult time.
