Joan Barnes Small

Joan Barnes Small, age 81, a resident of Daphne and a native of Mobile where she lived most of her life passed away Thursday, June 23, 2022. She graduated from Murphy High School in 1959. She worked at Brookley Field and the US Army Corps of Engineers until retirement in 2003. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Agnes Barnes, husband; Henry Jasper Small and brother; Raymond Barnes. She is survived by her sister, Gladys Williams; children; Nancy Halsell (Jason) of Birmingham, Jill Roh (Derek) of Daphne, David Small (Cindi) of Atlanta, grandchildren; Haley and Hannah Halsell, Brendan, Graham, and Aiden Roh, Jasper Small and many other loving relatives and friends. She was a world traveler who also enjoyed playing the piano, reading, and working in her garden. She was given another 15 ½ years thanks to an organ donation which allowed her to enjoy watching her grandchildren grow up. She was a longtime member of Forest Hill UMC in Mobile, AL. The family would like to thank the staff at Springhill Hospice and her dedicated caregivers for the excellent care received. Funeral services will be held at Christ the King on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at 11:00 am. and will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
