With hearts full of sadness, love, and respect, we share the peaceful transition of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, John Steve Biggs II, to his eternal home with Jesus. He fought a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, but kept the faith and finished as a champion.
Steve was born to Mollie Reinhold and Lawrence F. Biggs on October 13, 1946, in Mobile, Alabama. He graduated from Vigor High School in 1964 and married the love of his life, Janet McCrary, on September 2, 1966. Steve attended the University of Alabama, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He was named a Distinguished Engineering Fellow and participated in advisory teams and recruiting efforts. He later attended Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.
He had a successful career with Dow Chemical Company and later with North American Chemical, before establishing JSB & Co., his management consulting firm, in 1995.
Steve and Janet were a devoted team in parenting Andrew and Mollie, both born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and graduated from Parkview Baptist School, which Steve was instrumental in founding. His intelligence, quick wit, and winsome personality were evident in all his endeavors. He was passionate about studying and teaching the Holy Scriptures, even studying Hebrew to better understand and share the truths of God’s Word with his grandchildren and others.
In retirement, Steve loved to read and write and authored several books. His “happy place” was the log cabin in the woods that he designed and built with his own hands. He and Janet enjoyed fishing in the pond and simply being surrounded by the beauty of God’s creation.
His grandchildren were his pride and joy. “Dada” faithfully attended countless basketball games, baseball games, golf tournaments, and other events just to be with them.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved son, Steven Andrew Biggs. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janet McCrary Biggs; his daughter and son-in-law, Mollie and Jason Thomas; his daughter-in-law, Adaina Biggs; and his cherished grandchildren: Jenny Biggs Tum and her husband Alex, Poppins Biggs Weakley and her husband Brody, Miles Thomas and his wife Elyse, Julian “Jules” Thomas, and Stephen Watson. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Johnson, and her husband Frisco; his brother, Larry Biggs; his aunt, Charlene Robinson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Steve was a faithful member of Church of the Highlands in Daphne, AL, where he served as a small group leader.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Fairhope, Alabama, with visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., and the service beginning at 3:00 p.m.
