John "Jack" Lois Stevenson

d. October 8, 2024

John Lois Stevenson, Jr. of Foley, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the age of 84.

John, known to his family as “Big Jack,” was born on Christmas Day, 1939, in Mobile, Alabama.

He attended University Military School (UMS) in Mobile, where he was president of the TKO fraternity and captain of the cheerleading team. Jack went on to attend the University of Alabama, ultimately graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.

From 1961 to 1967, Jack was a member of the Air National Guard. During that time, he started a business in wastewater management, building plants throughout the Southeast. Jack learned to fly at a young age—obtaining his pilot's license at 19. He was an avid sailor and fisherman who also enjoyed growing tomatoes and peppers. Jack was known to be quite a character and always had a story to tell. In his later years, he loved to delight his grandchildren with his daily factoid.

Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeannie Bristol; his daughters, Jennifer Stevenson Cohan (Jon) of Los Gatos, CA, and Jacqueline Stevenson Sheslow of Miramar Beach, Florida; and his grandchildren, Julia Martucci (Alec), Emma Cohan, Michael Sheslow, and Kate Sheslow.

Preceding him in death are his parents, John Lois Stevenson, Sr. and Frances Lucille Davis Stevenson.

The family plans to honor Jack’s wishes by spreading his ashes at Middle Bay Lighthouse. Fair winds and following seas, Big Jack.
