John Miller Powell, Jr., a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and devoted friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 14, 2025, at the young age at heart of 89.
John was born on 09/15/1935 in Montgomery, AL to John Miller Powell, Sr. and Mary Mitchell Powell.
John is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; his son Ty Powell (Michelle); his sister Missy Vaughan (John); his sister-in-law Judy Powell (brother, Jack deceased) his daughters, Cindy Burnside (Sheldon), Lindy Blanchard (John) and Yvonne Schneckenberger (Don, deceased); a total of 32 grandchildren and great grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his son, John Miller Powell, III.
John played football for University of Missouri under Hall of Fame coach, Don Faurot. John blessed people whenever he walked in a room and spent his past time working with March of Dimes and the Lions Club. He and his friends enjoyed a lifetime of practical jokes and mischievous pranks. You might see him as Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, Cupid, or Powee the Clown. But more than anything, he was a walking testimony for Jesus and his family.
The family would like to extend the thanks to Community Hospice for their unwavering partnership helping our Papa John walk with Jesus.
