John Stewart Sibley, 78, of Bastrop, Louisiana, was born on March 25, 1948, and passed from this earth to be with his Lord and Savior on April 18, 2026.

John was the youngest of three children, lovingly raised by his parents, Ray John Sibley and Juanita Stewart Sibley, who adored him deeply. Growing up in Bastrop, he developed a strong sense of family and faith that would guide him throughout his life.

He pursued his passion for real estate by attending Northeast Louisiana University (now the University of Louisiana at Monroe), where he graduated in 1973 with a degree in real estate and insurance. In 1980, John married the love of his life, Sandra Payne, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned 46 beautiful years. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.

John’s professional life was marked by dedication and integrity. He purchased and managed Bastrop Realty, where he worked as a residential and commercial appraiser. He truly loved buying and selling homes and took great pride in helping others find not just houses, but places they could call home. His expertise and reputation led to his election to serve on the Louisiana Governor’s Board of Appraisers. Though his career was cut short by a massive heart attack in 2005, his impact on his community and profession endured even after eventually retiring to Fairhope, Alabama in 2011.

While John valued his career, his greatest joy was always his family. His deep love for his wife, children, and grandchildren was evident in everything he did. His devotion reflected his unwavering faith in God and the integrity, humility, and compassion he extended to those around him.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Sibley; his daughters, Kasey Witherington and her husband Chandler, and their children John Collin (wife Sydney), Luke, and Sarah Beth; and Jenny Bean and her husband Chris, and their sons Cam and Grayson. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Embanato and her husband Buddy, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Juanita Sibley; his sister, Sharon Brubaker; and his beloved daughter, Hannah.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds peace in knowing he is no longer in pain. They rejoice in his homecoming and the promise of eternal life.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7–8
