Johnny Lee Lyons

Johnny Lyons, 73, passed away on July 24, 2026. He was born May 4, 1953, to Millard and Marcell Lyons.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, and his cherished granddaughter, Emerson Rose Spruiell.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Dean Lyons; daughters, Jennifer Stancil (Scott) and Carolyn Green; grandchildren, Shane, Danyel, David, Haven and Dylan; great-grandchildren, Zoie, Daynton, Drayden, Dashlynn, Hartlyn and Darby; his brother, Robert Lyons and his beloved Maltipoo, Bella.

Johnny spent most of his life in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, before making his home on the Gulf Coast. He retired from Miller’s Transporters after nearly 40 years of dedicated service, where he earned a reputation for his dependability, strong work ethic and willingness to help others.

A faithful member of Summit Church in Foley, Alabama, Johnny found great purpose in serving others. He faithfully served on the church’s Security Team, volunteered with Operation Christmas Child, and was an active member of the Build-A-Cross small group. Through that ministry, he personally assembled and finished more than 20,000 wooden crosses over the past five years, each one crafted with care and intended to share the love of Christ.

Johnny was a lifelong fan of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide. Family and friends knew better than to schedule a wedding, birthday party—or even a funeral—on a football Saturday. If they did, they could expect Johnny to send his regards and catch up after the game.

He was a man who believed there was a right way to do a job and was never shy about saying so. Johnny valued hard work, personal responsibility and doing things well. He could fix nearly anything and was often the first person family, friends and neighbors called when something needed repairing. His attention to detail was unmatched, and those who knew him will tell you no one ever mowed and edged a yard quite like Johnny.

More than anything, Johnny loved his family. He expressed that love through service—whether building, fixing, helping or simply showing up when he was needed. His steady presence, generous spirit and unmistakable personality will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Summit Church, 21431 County Road 12 S., Foley, AL 36535.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Summit Church Security Team.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses and staff of Southern Cancer Center and South Baldwin Medical Center for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Johnny and his family throughout his illness.
