Johnny Howard Placher, age 80, of Puxico Missouri, passed peacefully February 19th, 2026, at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida after a long battle with kidney disease and recent bout of pneumonia.
He was born April 21st, 1945, in Kinder, Missouri. Son of the late Martin Clifford Placher and Melissa Sifford Placher.
A life-long resident of the Puxico, Missouri area, Johnny was a graduate of the Puxico High School Class of 1963. He served in the Army National Guard for six years, while driving dump trucks for local businesses. Johnny managed the Puxico location of Bootheel Petroleum and served the local farming community for many years, delivering fuel. He would always provide a helping hand to anyone in need. Johnny was a member of the Puxico Cowboy Church. He also was a member of the local Masonic Lodge.
Johnny loved being outdoors and hunting. He enjoyed working on cars, collecting memorabilia and antiques, and could often be found “piddling” on one of his many projects. He particularly cherished time spent in the deer woods with his nephews.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lou Ann McLean Placher; one daughter, Lori Hancock (Dewayne); one son, Eric; five grandchildren, Sarah Hancock, Will Hancock, Lauren Placher Crabtree (Mason), Gage Placher, and Tayleigh Placher: one great grandson, Samuel Howard Crabtree; a brother, Ray Placher (Jean); sister in-law, Martha Jane McLean Harmon (Glen); sister in-law, Phyllis Fish Placher; and honorary grandchildren, McKenzie Robinson Scarborough (Matt), Anabelle Allen, Bryson Kaiser, Hadley Kaiser, and Owen Viratos.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Placher.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am, on March 14th, 2026, at Brown Church in Puxico, Missouri. His brother, Rev. Ray Placher, and cousin Larry Sifford, will be officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Johnny’s memory to Brown Church Cemetery fund, c/o First Midwest Bank of Puxico.
