Kathryn Elizabeth Parmer

Silverhill

Our beloved mother, Kathryn Elizabeth Parmer, a resident of Silverhill, Alabama, passed peacefully into eternal life on April 12th, 2025, at the age of 104.

She will be missed but lovingly remembered by her three children, Carlie Jane, Delana Kay, and Sheldon Gaines; her grandchildren; Sara Kathryn and Alexander Gaines, her sister June, numerous nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends.

Kathryn was the first born of five children of Naomi and Carl Johnson on a farm called Crow Creek near Gary, South Dakota. The farm was the family’s livelihood dependent on each child helping with chores. During 1934 during the depression the Johnson family moves to Wisconsin and in 1937 purchase a farm south of Earl, Wisconsin. Kathryn’s father, Carl begins a dairy farm.

Kathryn worked many jobs to help her family through economic hardships. House cleaner and cook for room and board, waitress, worked at bakery (cinnamon rolls were her specialty) , chauffeur for Swedish masseuse which involved driving to Saskatchewan, Canada to picking up clientele in Waukegan, IL., and Western Union as telegrapher . During WWII, Kathryn enrolled in the United States Cadet Nurse Corps, a federal program training nurses who pledged to serve during the war. She graduated as a Registered Nurse. Her nursing career spanning over 35 years. Kathryn loved being a nurse and excelled at caring for others.

She loved fishing, gardening, home-cooked meals, old hymns, KJV bible, and was an avid quilter. She had great fortitude and gratitude for her family and friends.

Love you, Mom! Looking for you in the great cloud of witnesses as He is the God of the Living!

A Life Celebration of Kathryn will occur at a later date.
